The new Cerabar and Deltabar pressure transmitters will help you to unlock your IIoT potential by providing wireless communication, sensor diagnosis and information about the sensor and the process. As well as improving productivity, this smart approach increases process safety by avoiding human error.
Thanks to their Bluetooth interface, the new Cerabar and Deltabar devices are easier to operate and more efficient to maintain in safety-critical systems. There are various reasons why ease of operation is a major advantage. Many industries are struggling with an increasing lack of qualified personnel. Major plant revisions often involve service providers whose personnel do not have a thorough knowledge of the equipment and systems on site. The amount of safety-related equipment has also increased significantly in recent years, for example in the chemical and oil & gas industries, and with it the number of costly proof tests of the safety integrity level (SIL).
Easy operation increases productivity
To meet all these developments, Endress+Hauser has simplified operation of the new Cerabar and Deltabar transmitters. Wireless connection with Bluetooth via the SmartBlue app allows remote operator access from up to 15m away without the need for connection cables or even opening the device’s housing. This means that measuring points in difficult to reach or hazardous areas are easy to maintain.
Within the app are intuitive guides that lead the operator through commissioning and parameterisation sequences and only allow valid data input, helping to reduce the potential for human error during instrument set up. This wireless connection is highly secure too, having been rated ‘high’ by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security, minimising the risk of unauthorised adjustments and access to instrument data.
Unlock your IIoT potential
Using Heartbeat Technology, maintenance staff can verify their measuring points in minutes without interrupting the process. By continually performing self-diagnostics across 49 different internal measures, the new Cerabar and Deltabar pressure transmitters achieve a diagnostic coverage of over 95%, reducing the chance of dangerous undetected failures and alerting operators to any problem using NAMUR NE107 compliant warnings.
These diagnostics are the basis for an automatically generated verification report, accessible from the instrument, which provides detailed information on the device. This function helps to reduce the time and effort traditionally required to produce verification reports and can be used to plan system revisions and maintenance work in advance, helping to reduce downtime. But Heartbeat Technology can do even more. It can also detect irregularities in the process.
For example, by monitoring the device’s power supply, deviations can be identified that could indicate a defective or corroded cable in a damaged or ageing installation. Through the use of Statistical Sensor Diagnostics (SSD), blocked impulse lines or flooded chambers can be identified, and by analysing the process window, Heartbeat can even alert operators to steam hammers or pulsating flows, which could be missed by the device’s mA output.
Improve process safety
Guided sequences are also available for safe commissioning of SIL devices and for performing SIL proof tests. By leading the operator through the process, step by step, the new Cerabar and Deltabar transmitters can help to minimise human error and improve operational safety. At the same time, these tasks are completed more quickly as the need to consult the instrument functional safety manual is reduced.
In the case of an alarm status, the new Cerabar and Deltabar devices, when specified with the correct option, will change their display colour from green to red, helping maintenance staff to quickly identify a problem.
The new Cerabar and Deltabar devices feature proven, reliable and robust sensor technology and a smart safety concept. The new pressure measurement technology features self-explanatory and efficient operating concepts that prevent systematic errors during device parameterisation. They maintain the high safety level of the system and at the same time reduce maintenance costs – during commissioning as well as repair.
