Accurate measurement of moisture in natural gas is critical to meet quality specifications, control expenditure and ensure the safety of the process. The new J22 gas analyser from Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis increases the reliability of this measurement while simplifying operation and maintenance for the user.
In an offshore scenario, natural gas is exported to shared pipelines with each pipeline having its own entry specifications for the quality of the gas. If, for example, the gas contains too much moisture, gas export has to be stopped until the moisture levels can be reduced. The new J22 analyser provides real-time accurate measurement enabling tighter control of the gas dryer, which saves energy and costs and increases the life of the drying medium without interrupting gas export.
Reliable measurement also protects pipelines from corrosion and hydrates – solids formed of water and gas – both of which are hazardous due to the risk of explosion. As well as the serious safety concerns, failing to properly monitor the moisture content of the gas can lead to loss of production revenue and more expense. The J22 analyser guards against those risks, giving the user a measurement in real time and helping them to take control of their process.
Simplified maintenance
The J22 gas analyser is the first in a series of new analysers developed by SpectraSensors, an Endress+Hauser subsidiary that recently joined forces with Kaiser Optical Systems to form a new company: Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis. SpectraSensors pioneered the use of tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), which allows analysers to provide a moisture content measurement unaffected by glycol, methanol, amine or hydrogen sulphide. Thanks to the combination of this reliable technology with Endress+Hauser’s sophisticated diagnostic and data management tools, the J22 represents a unique and comprehensive solution to gas analysis.
With Heartbeat Technology, permanent diagnostics and in-situ verification are available in a gas analyser for the first time. The J22 monitors its own health and process conditions around the clock, immediately alerting maintenance staff to any servicing needs. The analyser is easy to maintain, as the electronics and optics are interchangeable, allowing for quick repair in the field and optimised asset management.
The system has its own web server to access diagnostic information via any browser without additional software. Communication is via either an Ethernet cable or MODBUS protocols and additional IOs common in the oil & gas industry. In addition, the system now features HistoROM, which can be used to register and store measurement data and events such as error messages over a long period of time.
Complete solution
J22 gas analyser systems are available in multiple configurations suitable for various locations, including a panel-mounted sample conditioning system, heated enclosure for use in outdoor settings or harsh environmental conditions and filtration system to remove particulates or liquids in the gas stream, assuring uninterrupted measurement.
